Mr.Eko Warko is the leader of farmer group "Baraya Abadi" in Barusari Village, Pasirwangi. By the end of 2015, Mr. Warko and two of his colleagues were selected as one of the administrators of demonstration plot of ayam kampung super (AKS) of PRISMA program.
AKS is a superior varieties of chicken that are kept in a cage or nurtured for 60 days. Mr. Warko and his group members diligently followed a series of activities organized by PRISMA program such as program socialization, training, and post-harvest handling.
The indicator of achievements in AKS farming is the maximum mortality level of 5% of total population, chicken feed ratio against weight of 2.5 to 3.0, and weight of chicken harvest of 0.8 to 1.1 kg per chicken.
The business performance of ISP "Baraya Abadi" was getting better and better overtime. In the first and second period, the ISP suffered a loss. However, in the third period, the ISP has managed to generate profits up to Rp4 million. This achievement was due to to Mr. Warko and the ISP members’ perseverance and willingness to follow the guidance of the PRISMA team.
"Alhamdulillah (praise to God), all of this are made possible because we are diligent and not giving up. To better nurture the chickens, we need to pay close attention to their health and the quality of feeds. Currently, we are raising 300 chickens. If we continue doing what the program teaches us, Insha Allah (God willing), we can increase it to 500 chickens," said Mr. Warko.
Catfish farming is a very challenging industry sector. There are many things that frighten people to go into the world of catfish farming, from lack of seed supplies, expensive price of animal feeds, extreme change of weather, lack of sales to poor quality of water. These challenges will discourage even the most experienced entrepreneurs. Mrs. Hj. Nur Aini, a catfish farmer from Kersik village, possesses something that helps her endure all the difficulties in catfish farming—it’s called "love." Her love for catfish farming injects energy to continue to continue and not giving up on catfish farming.
Initially, Mrs. Aini only has one pool courtesy of PRISMA program. Due to her tenacity, she now has 6 pools with each pool capable of accommodating at least 1,500 catfish. Empowered by the technical training on catfish farming from PRISMA program, she manages to minimize the mortality rate of fish seeds to below 10%. Considering the average rate of mortality of 30%, this is a remarkable achievement.
After two years of farming, Mrs. Aini is able to save money to send her children to college. In just one harvest, she can sell 200 kg of catfish at a price of Rp18,000-Rp19,000, depending on market prices. "With perseverance, willingness to learn, and passion, anyone can make their catfish farming business profitable," she said. The success of Mrs. Aini in catfish farming makes her a role model in intermediate service provider (ISP) Cipta Etam in Kutai Kertanegara, East Kalimantan. She is promoted as the most successful catfish farmer in Kersik village.
Pada awal 2015, Chevron yang bermitra dengan PT. Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) memberikan bantuan hibah berupa pembuatan kandang sebanyak 1 unit, perlengkapan kandang, fasilitas kandang, sapi ternak bali sebanyak 64 ekor, bibit tanaman holtikultura sebanyak 1 paket, dan pendampingan penguatan kelompok selama 1 tahun kepada induk kelompok binaan Kelompok Tani Ternak Sakai Mandiri Sejahtera (KTTSMS).
“My love for cocoa commodities equips me with the much needed passion to be a cocoa farmer without neglecting my daily job as a high school teacher,” said Mr. Fransiskus Posenti. Mr. Posenti lives in Wolokisa village where he cultivates cocoa in his land of 0.5 ha. He planted 200 cocoa plants—which he applied side-grafting technique on it—and other crops such pineapple, banana, pepper, and other plants for his daily needs.
Previously, he prepared his and for clove farming, but after hearing about the experience the land was prepared for planting cloves, but after hearing about the experience of cocoa field farmer school from other cocoa farmers and facilitators in his village, he turned to cocoa plants as he thought it would be more profitable than clove. Clove plants are harvested once a year and cost a lot in its harvesting process. As for cocoa, it can be harvested several times a year with minimum cost and its price increases every year.
Firstly, he bought 200 cocoa seeds cocoa learning center (CLC) at the price Rp10,000 per tree totaling to Rp2,000,000. The preparation of land and ajir were done with the help of CLC facilitators. Recognizing the lack of knowledge about cocoa farming, in July 2016, Mr. Posenti attended GAP training of cocoa together with the representatives of Nagekeo farmers and CLC facilitators. Experiencing first hand the training process, he became committed to the idea of improving cocoa farmers in Wolokisa village. Not long after that, Pak Posenti expressed his willingness to become one of CLC motivator in Nagekeo.
As a high school english teacher, Mr. Posenti always ensures that his cocoa farming activity does not get in the way of his duty as a teacher. Born and raised from a humble peasant family, Mr. Posenti continues to motivate his students to not forget about "farmer" as one of the most promising jobs out there. Not the type that talk the talk, he includes his teachings on compositing and bokashi processing as well as cattle feed processing into his class curriculum.
